    These plants do a terrible number on the air quality of downtown and near south and southwest Chicago.  Where I work on the near south side the air in the summer is, quite frankly, nasty because of these plants.  Removing these plants is not only a question of fairness but a basic prerequisite of meeting the city's economic development goals in the areas to the south and southwest of the Loop.
