    Sorry.

She said many times during the show's run that it was meant as an accurate depiction of the 'typical American working-class family".

She cannot now claim it was 'just fantasy'. It was fantasy - in almost every way - and bore absolutely no resemblance to the 'typical working-class family".

I wish I could remember the magazine that published the article I speak of in my first post - but it dealt with a documentary on PBS about an actual blue-collar poor family - and laid out just how ridiculous Roseanne's show was in its claim to 'represent' working class families with any degree of accuracy.

But I do respect her as a stand-up comic. I just wish she had stayed with that.

    •  It was successful because people could relate (0+ / 0-)

So, whatever article you're thinking may express one point of view but the fact is that she was successful in depicting a family that many people recognized from their own experience.  There's no single blue collar family experience, so I don't know how anyone could presume to say that the show didn't achieve it's goal.

Of course the show achieved it goal - which was the same goal as every other network primetime series has - to make money for its advertisers and production company. :D :D
