Court nominees.  The Democrats have filibustered lower court nominees, like Prof. Liu.

    •  Because the nominees were far right crackpots (4+ / 0-)

Under Bush, almost every judicial nominee was a far right kook or wholly unqualified. The guy tried to put his personal lawyer on the Supreme Court, for god's sake. That should tell you something about the quality of his nominees further down the roster.

And many of these nominees got through anyway (like Alito), when GOPers screamed about "Democrat obstruction" and the Dems caved. Bottom line is that they get their nutballs in, but we can't get our uncontroversial, mainstream nominees in.

cloture today.  McCain, Graham, Collins, and Snowe agreed in writing then that they would only filibuster a judicial nominee for an "extraordinary" reason.  What was their "extraordinary" reason for reneging on that agreement today--like Grassley, they think that Liu's a Commie?

These people are bald-faced liars, and they come from a party of bald-faced liars.  Hell, they're better than most in their caucus.   That's what's really scary here.

Some men see things as they are and ask why. I dream of things that never were and ask why not?

Republicans oppose Liu for the same reasons that Dems opposed Miguel Estrada.

Once you figure out that both parties operate from the same set of politics, it's easy.  And if you wan't to recognize the truth and/or hypocrisy (in yourself and others) in any given situation like this, simply reverse the party of the individuals involved and you have your answer.

      That's pronounced COOLbert.

Estrada was a right wing nut, Liu has endorsements from Ken Starr and John Yoo.

The catch-all when you can't, or won't respond substantively.  Don't forget next to accuse me of spouting "right wing talking points".

And calling someone a "right-wing nut" (and Estrada was deemed well-qualiried by the ABA...graduating magna cum laude from Columbia and Harvard, being editor of the law review and a supreme court clerk helped) is an opinion, not substance.   Funny how to bolster you case you site two people who most around here consider to be "right-wing" nuts.

FYI, I don't particularly care about Liu or Estrada for that matter, one way or the other.  I'm just amused by watching hypocrisy at work.  Seeing people flip back and forth on these issues like filibusters is like watching the teams switch sides at halftime at a high school football game (only without the cheerleaders).

Maybe I'm just a right wing nut job. :)
