I'm hoping that a Latina Democrat takes the seat - there is currently only 1 Latino Democrat (Menendez) in the Senate, and there has never been a female Hispanic Senator. AnSenate opening in CA would be a great opportunity to elect a young  progressive Latina. Linda Sanchez? (she is more progressive than her sister) Norma Torres?  Nora Campos? Hilda Solis could run for Senate after leaving the Cabinet?

Or California could make even more history - maybe Assembly Speaker John Perez, an openly gay Latino labour activist would be a welcome addition to the US Senate.

I wouldn't have any problem with Bowen as Senator, but I'd encourage use to look at opportunities to improve the diversity of representation among elected officials.

Once social change begins,it cannot be reversed. You cannot uneducate the person who has learned to read...You cannot oppress people who are not afraid anymore.

      Would be a heavy favorite.

Rep. Chu, who took Solis's seat when she moved up to Cabinet, would also be a very strong candidate.
