Liberal can't get their Shit Together or Divide and Conquer Us.

      centrist dem wins.

Oh well, Hahn is still a mile better than Jane Harman though. Jane Harman was our Joe Lieberman.

      •  Is there much evidence (0+ / 0-)

That Hahn is a centrist?  Her website focuses on labor and environmental issues.  I haven't seen anyone make the case that she's considerably to the right of Bowen as far as policy records go.

        •  Well- you are right. centrist is too strong a word (0+ / 0-)

She just doesn't quite have the same progressive shine as Marcy Winograd & Bowen.

I have no problem with her winning. I just want to say that progressives need to stop shooting off our own feet.

    •  Top two primaries by their very nature (1+ / 0-)

are supposed to have more centrists from both parties. In theory, a dead-centrist will be unelectable in any party primary, but will have great appeal to the electorate as a whole. So this law is partially intended to create more centrists and bridge the ideological chasm between the two parties in the legislature. And who knows, combined with totally the new districts, that could actually happen.

Of course, in practice these primaries can get pretty chaotic, hence the nickname "jungle primary." So weird results are quite possible, like when white nationalist David Duke finished second in the 1991 LA-GOV race.
