    Since the state constitution has a set heterosexual-supremacist definition of marriage, it can not be overridden except by the same process that put it there in the first place.

    Otherwise, we have the ability to collect signatures to place new laws on the ballot. Just recently, a law passed by majority vote to put new restrictions on dog breeders (puppy mills). This is not possible for marriage equality.
