    The technology that is being proposed i.e. steel wheels on steel rails is really what is under indictment here. It is 1950's technology at best. The Techachapi loop is there for a reason the that the mountains south and east of here are almost too steep for rail travel.

      ... were the 1960's in Japan, the French got on board in the 1980's. Nobody was running electric intercity transport at 220mph in the 1950's.

      The Tehachapi Loop is indeed there because the mountains are almost too steep for heavy freight rail travel at grade ~ that's why they don't run an HSR corridor through at grade in that kind of terrain.
