do you folks have on the bench, and what's their team look like?

No kidding, that's what it takes. Whoever you have on the bench has to have hired a campaign finance lawyer already, (it's about 6 months too late) and an interim campaign manager who's ready to drop out once the candidate has enough cash to hire a full time pro.

They need to have already called all of their family and friends for cash, and be ready to play dialing for dollars for about 4 hours every day. It would help if they've had elective office before, the oppo would have already been done.

Those are your numbers for the next month, maybe two; then you're really fighting against the tide. You're lucky in that you don't have a huge amount of geography to deal with; you don't have to cover an entire western state to have a town hall in every major voting district.

That's your 2012 number; 50%+1. I'd be surprised if you hit it, but show me a candidate and I'll send what I can and phone-bank from CA. But anyone I send money to will make it easier in 2016, and if s/he runs again, I'm in again.

Of course the best, most direct, and usually easiest, way to get rid of something like McHenry is to win the next election, throw the bum out.  If you can do that, just beat McHenry next E-day, that's definitely what you should do.

The problem is that this yahoo may be doing a good job of representing a district with a large yahoo majority.  Presumably he carries on like this because this sort of behavior actually improves his electoral chances.  If that's the case, if the real problem is his district, then you go with Plan B and expel the yahoo from the House to tell his district something about what is acceptable behavior on the floor of the House.  Sure, McHenry is supposed to represent them.  But he also works for all of us, he has to answer to all of us.  That's why the House is given the power, and responsibility, to police the behavior of its members, up to and including sending them home.

We should have destroyed the presidency before Obama took office. Too late now.
