  •  Charlie Cook was gleefully predicting it... (7+ / 0-) August of 2009, possibly even in July.  He had a big article on the front page of his web site.  His constant harping of the subject helped create a self-fulfilling prophecy with his influence of the media.

When the Ryan budget was originally voted on, Charlie said that the house was definitely in play if the GOP was stupid enough to endorse such a proposal.  One week later, he rescinded that and now claims that there will not be any counterwave election.  It's like he caught himself giving our side a chance and had to immediately correct it or his beltway buddies would give him a ribbing.

Like other beltway pundits, he always gives the GOP the benefit of the doubt.  It's not entirely his fault.  As one person mentioned in 2008 (maybe Greg Sergeant)--the "village" media is wired to the Republicans.  He's just being influenced by the people around him.

Charlie Cook is very good at what he does, but his info comes from the beltway villagers, and that place is full of conservative enablers out of touch with the rest of America. That data going to naturally lean to the right, hence his reluctance to give our side the benefit of the doubt... at least early on.
