Why is it taking the cops three weeks to say why he was under investigation?

    •  I don't know (0+ / 0-)

There need to be more questions, but I'm not ready to automatically blame the police yet. The fact that they were going to a house of someone with military training may have influenced their behavior.

      •  I do blame them for lying (6+ / 0-)

Their lies are obvious. They are transparent. Above all, they should have told the truth.

        Why did the cops lie?

They should not have shot Jose Guerena 60 times. What is that about?

They should not have denied him emergency medical care? What's up with that?

Why did the cops maintain well into the second week after the killing that Jose Guerena had fired his gun at them?

The cops lost me when they lied.

Jason Ogan, spokesperson with PCSD, said that when deputies finally entered the home, "Guerena started firing with a long rifle.  Deputies fired back, fatally wounding him."

Like much else about this killing, what the official said was an elaborate but transparent lie:

Deputies said that he opened fire on the officers which forced them to fire back, killing Guerena. The bulletproof shield that officers were carrying took the brunt of the bullets. They were not hurt.

"We are trained to always be on alert because you never know when a scenario is going to change.  We don't always know what the bad guy is going to do."said Pima County Deputy, Jason Ogan.  "The SWAT team is used deliberately for high risk type warrants, this met that criteria and that's why the SWAT team served the warrant."

        That is a brazen lie.

Guerena forced the cops to shot? Their bulletproof shields took the brunt of the bullets? Where the hell did that come from? The safety on Jose Guerena's weapon was on. The cops lied and there is no getting around that.

        Why did they lie?

Were they scared of taking responsibility for shooting a veteran 60 times?

        Where is their honor?

Dupnik couldn't devote the time to getting Laughner off the street - someone who scared everyone who met him.
"It was complex... no clear-cut case wrongdoing before the shooting spree."

Jose Guerena sounds like he was loved by everyone who met him - and we'll send the SWAT Team to deal with him.
"It was simple... a clear-cut case of wrongdoing, resulting in his death."

As to SWAT "going in hot" as this guy is a Marine and likely has a gun?  WHERE'S THE BODY COUNT?

What you're saying might have been a justified method of entry and take-down, required "hot pursuit" back in my days of doing this sort of work.
The fresh scent of gunpowder and blood, leading from a body to the subject's house.

That wasn't the case in Arizona.
What's the worst that would have happened?

JOSE GUERENA - THIS IS THE POLICE - COME OUT WITH YOUR HANDS UP
        [/loudspeaker]

He refuses.  Takes his wife and child hostage.  There's a stand-off in the hot Arizona sun.  There's negotiations.
        There's negotiations within the house:
"Jose, que pasa?  Your child is here.  Our other boy will be coming home from school.  You can't do this."

Nah.  Fuck it.  We've other things to do today.  Kick the door, and shoot anyone who resists.  I'm off-duty in 6 hours, then it's heading to Lake Powell to do some fishing. I don't have the time or desire for any bullshit today.

That's how it went... the "Nah Fuck it" way.

Jose Guerena's civil rights were taken from him, without due process, and someone from the top on down - needs to do Federal Prison time for this.
