    I have had the good fortune to play this symphony with a few different orchestras, including the Chicago Symphony, and I have to agree with the posters above who defend the greatness of the piece.  "Snob" is the correct word for people who dismiss any music just because it is popular.  I recently played Beethoven 5 and every time I hear it I wish that it were not a cliche, and that people would try to listen to it with fresh ears.

    For what it's worth, I find Tilson-Thomas to be a very affected conductor and interpreter, and I very much enjoyed seeing Solti again on the clips above.
