  •  No Comcast for us (1+ / 0-)

We wanted the higher speed, so we switched from our DSL provider to Comcast. It was reliable and lightning-fast... during the day when we were at work (so said the network monitoring software that my husband installed). But it went completely out every night between about 7 and 10pm -- the time when we were at home and actually needed to use it. We had no Internet connection at all at night. I assume that was their peak traffic time, and their network just couldn't handle it. They came out to our house multiple times, tweaked this and that, and mucked around with the cable connections, but nothing changed. After one month of that, we kicked them out and went back to DSL. It may be slower, but at least it works.

Truth energizes the left, infuriates the right.

    •  Really just luck of the draw. (0+ / 0-)

Where you live, how good your provider is locally.  Real competition could help, but think tighter regulation would help more.  Charging for a service that doesn't work seems like fraud to me.
