  •  How we did it... (6+ / 0-)

My wife and I combined two approaches and together we saved 30% per month on our electric bills. First we upped the bill by a few pennies per kWh by going for all wind power through ConEd solutions (there are other programs...if you don't have ConEd, check here for what is near you). The difference was minor, but still an increase.

At the same time we switched all our bulbs to CFLs. That massively saved us money, bringing our bill down despite the all wind power. Together it was a large decrease in our monthly expenses and monthly carbon footprint.

and LED when possible, and also participate in CO's renewable buy-ins.

I was thinking specifically of pricey tech, but realized I already take the stuff I've done for granted, probably because I am focused on my difficulty upgrading in the other areas.

I admit we haven't made the jump to LEDs. Maybe that is our next step. Actually, if we can get up the money, our top priority is to replace our ancient and inefficient refrigerator. We are just finding it hard to make ends meet let alone buy a new appliance...and moving in/out the units from our basement apartment will be a nightmare I have yet gotten the courage to face.
