  •  Yeah it is, since it wasn't about nuclear. (0+ / 0-)

Here's another stupidity "100% solar is doable!"--Harvey Wasserman.

"too cheap to meter" originally referred to fusion at a time when research efforts on that were classified. But others disagree with that.

        here.

there is some disagreement over exactly what Lewis Strauss meant with that quote, but it can't be denied that the slogan was used to advance nuclear power in the US at a time when we were making as many nuclear weapons as we could, necessitating the production of weapons grade plutonium.
The history of nuclear power cannot be separated from the nuclear arms race in any honest reading.

    •  Already "there" David... you know that. (0+ / 0-)

When the head of GE says solar will be cheaper than nukes in five years or less... perhaps you might "listen"?

      •  A huh. Sure. This is why they continue (0+ / 0-)

to push nuclear. Solar is pushed for different reasons: at insane subsidies then of course solar is 'cheaper'. But at least you admit they are not cheaper NOW, right?

was that there are unaccounted costs to nuclear that put it completely outside the realm of economics and into the realm of potentially creating uninhabitable areas, in this case on a relatively small, heavily populated island.
what's the price on that? Tepco may well implode over the damage ongoing at Fukishima. If true, that is a lethal cost for the company.

and as far as why companies do or do not advocate solar/wind over nuclear, it is at least reasonable to ask if the fact you cannot charge the customer for the wind to blow or the sun to shine, but can charge by the watt for nuclear might have a little something to do with the decison making at a large, for profit energy company.
          Isn't it?
