    job telling this story.  I wish I could remember which book I read on this battle, but it was grippingly told and not kind to Halsey.

    My Dad was on the USS Radford DD/DDE 446, Fletcher Class.  He was in the Battle of Kula Gulf and the Battle of Kolombangara.  After rescuing about 700 victims, along with the USS Nicholas from the torpedoed USS Helena, he was back to Leyte Gulf.  The Radford was the fist ship to shoot down enemy planes by use of full radar and she is one of the most decorated ships, serving in WWII, the Korean War (as an escort) and the Vietnam war before being decommissioned and scrapped.

    So much history and the first hand accounts are being lost to us because of the aging veterans.
