    Yes, as you clearly saw/experienced, the shift is not easy when so many threads of structural violence have been so deeply embedded in a society for so long.

    Look at this country:  chattel slavery ended, but then came the rise of prisons, convict leasing, and ultimately mass incarceration.  How long after the amazing gains of the Civil Rights Movement will it be until black people are not disproportionately poor, incarcerated, etc.?
