  •  Well.... (3+ / 0-)

Racism would still be denied in this country. No amount of hair straightener, elocution lessons, or blepharoplasty will fix white entitlement.

I think homophobes are making a big stink about "ex-gays" because it lets them argue that being gay is a choice.

And so what if "gay" is a choice? It wasn't a choice for me, but so what if it is for someone else? I thought our country was founded on the individual's right to choose.
I detest the whole "Aw, poor thing -- you were born that way and just can't help yourself" meme.
But I despise the "It's a choice, and you're going to roast in Satan's Club Med for all eternity" crap.
The actual choice involved is how I *CHOOSE* to comport myself and live in this society. And if I choose to make my life with another man, then TFB that I'm off the market (and possibly honking off some pseudo-scientific religio-whackadoodles in the process, which is just icing on my big pink gay cake with the rainbow flag!)
they don't have a theory as to why some people are gay, and they can't explain why these therapies top out at a 40% success rate.

The "success" rate is 3% at the end of one year. If this were a cancer treatment, people would be up in arms.
What the delightful lying shitbags at NARTH and EXODUS neglect to tell people is that at the end of five years, their "success" rate is ZERO, with a 5% suicide rate.
So, unless they're counting dead people as "successfully converted"....

"Men never do evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it from religious conviction." - Blaise Pascal (1623-1662), Pensées, #894.
