  •  I would think that in general (0+ / 0-)

people who watch news shows have more money.

they might skew a bit older, but many of them are working professionals and have more disposable income than the younger demo.

They're also looking for ways to have that money make more money, and they want something secure.

Watch the commercials on the Sunday news shows - almost all geared to the higher wage earner, or the business decision maker. The weeknight news shows are almost all drug ads.

There really don't seem to be many real consumer ads anymore. Not much for retail (at least not when I'm watching) other than cars.

Sunday news show advertising is more about spin control more than anything else. Notice the Military Industrial Complex's heavy emphasis on Sundays. They do that to keep the pundits in line, IHMO. That's true for the majority of all Sunday sponsors. It's a lot like blackmail; put talkers on we like or we pull our ads. That's why the Fairness Doctine was invaluable; it kept out sponsor influence. That went out the window when all 3 major nets decided in the same week back in the 80's to go for profit. Sure, they're making money, but you can see a direct correlation in opinion polls that that was the point people stopped trusting network news. Those numbers have grown over time to the point where seniors are the sole demo they attract.
Hence, weekday drug ads are what you think; they don't attract young eyes, so that's all they can sell.

Catch St. Louis' progressive talk show, The Murdock Report, every Tuesday @ noon! Stream or download it: www.wgnu920am.com I do the twit thing too @Smokin'JoeWGNU
