  •  I also think Anderson Cooper is (16+ / 0-)

one of the few good things on CNN. I wonder if it is because he is independently wealthy (as in super-rich inherited wealth) so he doesn't have to worry about a job; he's doing it because he likes to do it.

Don Lemon, the weekend anchor, is also decent. He doesn't hyperventilate like Blitzer and seem calm and reasoned. I can't recall a situation where he performed either particularly well (or particularly egregiously, either) in a controversial matter but he seems to be competent and fair, which puts him head and shoulders above most news anchors and commentators.

You fell victim to one of the classic blunders, the most famous of which is "Never get involved in a land war in Asia".

promoting his autobiography, talking about his childhood abuse, coming out....i believe he is finding his voice.  he's an awesome person, with the potential to be an awesome anchor :)

    •  You're on to something about Cooper. (0+ / 0-)

I can't recommend his book "Dispatches from the Edge" strongly enough (and that's saying something because I never recommend books.) The man is a very talented writer, and he does an extraordinary job of illuminating what motivates him to be a journalist. It has a lot to do with the deaths of his youth -- both father (sudden illness) and brother (suicide.)

Plus, the inside stories of Katrina and the Indonesian Tsunami are truly breathtaking. The images that Cooper paints with prose will never leave you.
