I'd say my top choice is Comptroller John Liu. He seems to be aggressive about the right things, and sticks it to Bloomberg hard - hard enough to upset the Bloombo people, which in my book means you're doing something right. My second choice is probably 2009 nominee and former Comptroller Bill Thompson, who ran a surprisingly good campaign against Bloombo despite being almost comically outgunned and getting written off by a lot of people. (I have to admit I myself was pretty much guilty of that.)

I'm not excited by City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, who was always too chummy with Bloombleberry. I never felt I could trust Weiner's political instincts, and Public Advocate Bill deBlasio is dead to me after saying we were being mean to Wall Street.

Some other candidates could emerge, I suppose, but this is probably the "top tier," such as it is.

    •  I voted for Liu for Comptroller (0+ / 0-)

and have a generally positive impression of him. I didn't vote for Thompson because I didn't think he did much as Board of Ed Chairman, and I believe he's a mediocre machine politician, though I give him credit for running a good campaign against Bloomberg.

Thanks for your reply. It will be interesting to watch the campaign, who enters, and how things unfold.
