    The administration's greatest fear is a domestic terror attack similar to the 9/11 attacks.  They fear (correctly, I imagine) that this would be a political disaster.

    So they want as much power as possible to stop it.

    Problem is that they are likely shredding the Constitution to do so.  They really care far, far less about individual rights than they do about their political future.

      A terrorist attack was fabulous for the Bush administration. Politically speaking.

      In fact, that's why there were so many "truthers."

      It was a political bonanza for the neocon wingnuts.
