Has this ever not been the case? Has there ever been a moment in this nation's history so stable, so replete with domestic tranquility that it was not possible for there to be credible threats to security in any portion of the country or to our government?

No. This country, like all countries, is wide open to domestic threats to stability and security. It has always been so and it will continue to be so, no matter how much they spy on Americans or clamp down on freedoms.

I've definitely taken the red pill on this issue. The surveillance state rabbit hole is deep and deeply cynical.

The US has spent the last 10 years on an international murderspree.

There's a lot of blood revenge coming this way. At least 20 to 30 years worth.

Under the circumstances, I don't see how the US can keep citizens safe without yanking many of their civil rights.
