    trending Republican for decades. They would have elected Republican as early as the 1950s and 1960s had the incumbents not been personally popular. Tom Campbell, who was still popular, won Mineta's district because he had represented ti before.

      I think that he actually represented Anna Eshoo's district before, though his home may have been moved into the 15th in 1992.  As for Natcher and English, Dems expected to win it - Joe Prather even spent time during the campaign looking for a house in DC.  Oklahoma 6 was Republican before English, represented by a guy named John Happy Camp.  His loss was one of the biggest surprises of 1974.  Richard Nixon had gotten 79% there in 1972.
