I think the big news in that buying of the majority stake by Total is that:

    a)  Total realizes that renewables are the future and that the U.S. solar market will be booming soon(unless Republicans manage to take over full control of Govt., that is)

    b)  Total wants a solar power manufacturing base in the U.S. so that it can not only be involved in the U.S. solar market but also be better placed to export from the U.S. to other markets, and is willing to pay big bucks to get that.

It actually has a high likelihood of boosting solar manufacturing in the U.S., since Total is investing massive amounts of cash into the company.

I understood that Total was looking to move into something profitable for it when solar booms.  I have heard some good things about SunPower and would love if solar as well as other renewables take off.  I could use some good news about the future since so much of the future seems less than hopeful.  Or maybe I am reading too much of the wrong news.

There are alot of shitty things going on but you're also likely reading too much of the negative news as well.

I love sites like ecogeek.org and cleantechnica.com because they do a great job of highlighting exciting, positive developments.

I highly recommend browsing through their news whenever you need an emotional upper.
