recently called Precious Life about a 4 month old Palestinian baby who was allowed to go to a hospital in Israel with his family for bone marrow testing and treatment. He would have died without this access because there just aren't any Palestinian facilities capable of helping him. I didn't get to watch the whole thing, so I don't know if the boy lived or not. But I did see quite a bit and one of the things that really struck me, was when the mother talked about how terrified she was when it was time to go because she thought they were going to kill her and the baby. She was convinced that Israelis hated Palestinians and that the offer of medical treatment was too good to be true, but she went anyway because it was the only option she had. I have no idea if she hated Israelis or not, but she sure as hell was afraid. I can't say as I blame her, if the only Israelis she ever knew were soldiers who bombed her people, shot her people and enforce a blockade that keeps her people poor. I think at that point, she was comfortable in admitting her fears because she realized that she had been very wrong. I would like to think, that given a chance, people on both sides could learn to not fear and not hate.
