  •  My mother-in-law owns a house near Osorno (11+ / 0-)

You can see Puyehue from her front yard.  From those satellite pics, though, it looks like the ash cloud is moving in the other direction.

Puyehue might be obscured by the poplar to the left of Osorno Volcano in this picture I took last summer, but I think it's actually out of the frame:

Suegra is almost certainly in Santiago right now, but we'll be giving her a call tonight.

If she was home, she would have a had a great view and probably felt a lot of ground shaking, from the sounds of it. You're right about the ash cloud. At this moment, it seems like Argentina is getting the brunt of this. However, evacuations are still in process in Chile. I hope you're able to get a hold of her.

She grew up on that land, and everybody all around are cousins.  I'm sure she's going to hear amazing stories the next time she goes to her country home.

Almost looks like Mount Rainier. Wait a minute.........MOUNT RAINIER!!!!!

I didn't intend the above as a factual statement.

I was there for a week and it rained pretty much every day.  I knew the mountain was close, but I never saw it.

When I went back two years later, what you see in that picture is what I woke up to after arriving late in the night the day before.

Osorno is my favorite mountain.  It's majestic and beautiful, but you know it contains an awful power that it may someday unleash.
