  •  I LOVE New Orleans. (5+ / 0-)

Especially because I am a foodie and the eating there is awesome. Going out to bars is fun (visit the Rawhide for a real experience in debauchery, you don't even have to drink to have a good time there) but what I really like is the food.

One of these days as I love good food as well and love to watch any cooking show featuring New Orleans.

Maine ("In Good Company" in Rockland is a must-visit if you are ever in the area. Get the roasted peppadews stuffed with Seal Cove goat cheese as a first course) where there is plenty of serious food. More so even than Boston, where I lived for years and has great restaurants too. Houston, Texas is a major food town. I understand that the average Houstonian eats out 4.5 times a week and as a former Houstonian myself, I can attest to the truth of that.

New Orleans, however, has got to be the food capitol of the US. More so even than NYC, and I LOVE to eat in NYC.

September. Southern Decadence. Great party. But EAT.

    •  The great thing about academia (5+ / 0-)

is that New Orleans is a popular city for conferences. I had one there last summer and I have another one in 2013.
