  •  The plants are always in "stupid" locations. (11+ / 0-)

The fact is, nuclear proponents basically advocate putting the plants everywhere.  That's the only possible outcome if we move to using nuclear power for the majority of our energy needs.  We'd need to build so many plants that inevitably many of them will be sited in dangerous locations.

The funny thing is the nuclear power shills are never dissuaded by anything.  In another forum I frequent there are some people who worked in the nuclear power industry and they are still completely convinced about the care the nuclear power industry takes to ensure safety, and how safe nuclear power is.  Even if Fukushima had really made northern Japan uninhabited these biased idiots would still praise nuclear power and tout how it's vital to powering human society.

The reality is nuclear power is expensive, and experience ove the past half century has shown that it's not safe.  If we put in as many billions into developing renewable technology as we have into nuclear power, we'll easily achieve the breakthroughs we need to relegate nuclear power to the dust bin of history.  The fact that it requires complex technology to split the atom doesn't mean it's the wave of the future.

A hundred years from now I doubt there will be any operating nuclear power plants.  China's experiment with nukes will end in about 20-30 years when they have their first disaster or near disaster.  Considering China's breakneck growth rate and apparent lack of care of public safety, I wouldn't be surprised if it happens much sooner than that.

and nuclear fundamentalists is that they shut the fuck up and go to Fukushima where they can make themselves useful in a variety of ways.

If they actually give a shit about their industry, go do something to make the disaster less severe instead of spending time on blogs denying it.
