  •  Not just letters to him. (9+ / 0-)

Write to your Representative and Senators. Write to your local newspaper, and local television stations. Write on Facebook or Twitter, or an email to your friends and family.

A letter to the President gets read by one staffer, who marks it on a tally sheet and files it away. Same with letters to Senators or Representatives, but they're a little more directly dependent on your vote.

Letters to the editor, notes on Facebook, personal emails—these can make all the difference in getting others to put pressure on the President and Congress to end the wars.

    •  So our letters of support (0+ / 0-)

will get read, but our letters of protest, LTE's, petitions, phone calls ect for things we want them to do get no play?
Go ahead. They don't listen to us one way or another.
Support the idea of getting out vs. protesting the whole idea of wars in the first place?

Obama, how many innocent people did you kill today with your drones for the corporations?

...will work as a persuasive tool.

(I generally don't have a very high opinion of idealism in politics, as I think it leads to stupid stances, rigid positions, and bad messaging.)

Protesting the "whole idea of wars in the first place" will alienate the people we need to support this, encouraging them to write off opposition to the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars by associating it with hippie pacifism and unrealistic idealism.

Suggesting that these wars are a waste of our nation's young lives and treasure is more likely to get folks on board; making a pragmatic case that war is sometimes appropriate, and hell, we've won this thing so let's stop wasting our troops and money over there, will result in more support.
