  •  "It's the economy stupid" (11+ / 0-)

Carville's dictum will come back to haunt us.

Yeah! It IS the economy.  Are there ANY positive trends!

Except for the rich we are all either treading water or sinking.  Many have hit bottom and staying there.

I would love Obama  to come out swinging on the economy; massive investments in infrastructure (this will improve the future and get construction workers on the payroll again);  green energy projects; eliminate the Bush(/Obama) tax cuts; real healthcare reform (single payer or at least a public option comes to mind); DoD budget reductions (get the troops out of Japan, Europe and Korea to start with).

There is not much time left.

If the Repugs take the WH, Senate or even just keep Congress, this will make the Great Depression look like a picnic.

    •  Expecting Obama to come out swinging is like (12+ / 0-)

expecting Palin to intelligently address public policy.  It's totally out of character.

Hires like Summers/Sperling, Geithner, Bernanke, and Rahmbo/Daley aren't accidents.  They're examples of a conscious philsophical bent.  You can take the POTUS out of U  Chicago, but you can't take the U Chicago out of the POTUS.

Why do you think that Jared Bernstein left?  Why do you think that, as per Bernstein, a WPA-style jobs program was never considered in 2009?  Why do you think we heard all of that "green shoots" BS in 2010?

This WH's re-election prospects are totally at the mercy of events over which it has no control.  It didn't have to be this way.

Some men see things as they are and ask why. I dream of things that never were and ask why not?

    •  Swing at what? (0+ / 0-)

The Bush tax cuts that he renewed?  The inadequate stimulus bill that he signed?  The Wall Street/banking carte blanche bailout that he presided over?

He should have been swinging as of Inauguration Day, when his poll numbers were terrific.  THAT would have mobilized public opinion behind a progressive agenda.

      THAT would have been leadership.
