  •  There is a way to fix the autostart. (8+ / 0-)

rs noted in this comment in a different diary with the same problem:

It's not your computer, it's not your browser, it's not Mr. Olberman, and it's not Daily Kos.

Videos hosted by brightcove have autoStart* turned on by default.  It's possible** to turn it off if you can read and write embed code fluently, but no normal person knows how to do that.

    * It it extremely helpful when looking this stuff up to remember that someone, somewhere decided to call it autostart, not autoplay.

    ** Ahem:

    1) Inside the < object ... >...< /object > tags, but not inside the < embed ... >...< /embed > tags, add the following:

    < param name="autoStart" value="false" / >

    2) find the flashVars="[complete gibberish]" attribute in the < embed ... > tag.  No, not the one in the < param ... > tag.  The one in the < embed ... > tag.  Now add the following to the end of the gibberish, but inside the closing double quote:

    &autoStart=false

Including the ampersand is important; that's not a typo.

    3) Add the following new attribute inside the < embed > tag, that is, after the "< embed" but before the closing angle bracket, " > ":

    autoStart="false"

Make sure it's got spaces separating it from the other attributes in the tag.

If that doesn't work, contact tech support, and rs or another of our fine techies will fix it for you.

    •  If you're using Firefox and install (2+ / 0-)

NoScripts as an add-on, and not allow particular sites to have total control, that also works.

I've only given permission or X amount of sites to completely load.  Therefore, I never have an issue with any auto play.

When I reach such a site that has auto play, I "temporarily allow" the site with NoScripts, and then the "auto play" begins.

A little technical, I know, but it works beautifully.

Or in the alternative:  If you know a particular site has autoplay, ALWAYS turn down your volume before you click on the site link.

To every millionaire who decries they don't want their grandchildren paying for the deficit, I say: PAY MORE TAXES NOW and your grandkids won't have a deficit burden.
