  •  Jim Davis was a decent Dem (0+ / 0-)

He was a New Democrat in the House but pretty solid overall.  He received the bulk of Dem endorsements in the 2006 Governor's race and narrowly defeated Rod Smith in the primary.  He still lost pretty bad (52-45%) to Charlie Crist in the general.

Kendrick Meek may have been moderate given how liberal his House seat was, but overall he was still quite liberal and got dstroyed by Rubio in the 2010 Senate race, taking only 20% of the vote.

Barring some unusual dynamic in a race liberal Dems just won't win statewide in Florida.  Of course Rick Scott is so despised even a super liberal Dem could probably beat him in 2014.
