    Calling for policies that might give us a chance to put on the brakes before we reach the tipping point of runaway global warming is the province of green stalinists, it would seem.

    It's already too late for that.  The greenhouse is already underway.  There's enough carbon in the atmosphere now that we have already preventred the next ice age, probably the next TWO ice ages, up to 130,000 years from now.  We've already affected people who will be living farther away from modern Homo sapiens sapiens as we are from when we first arose in Africa!

    We have no desire to offend you -- unless you are a twit!

      See my "tipping point" comment above. We've certainly gone to the point where  there will be terrible consequences. There is no reason to think that how bad the consequences will be is already set. You know, the difference between say 100,000,000 dead and say 2,000,000,000 dead is actually bigger than the difference between 0 and 100,000,000. So action is extremely important.

      Also, CO2 only lasts some 1000 years in the atmosphere. We may do things that ruin the environment for much longer, but they won't even have the side benefit of preventing an ice age. It's more like burning your house down- it won't keep you warm next winter.
