In CA, welfare recipients get a debit card and that card doesn't work for the purchase of alcohol or tobacco.

So the argument that welfare recipients will spend that money on those items falls flat.

    •  Not so. (6+ / 0-)

In every poor community there are dozens of ways to barter and negotiate food stamp cards and even WIC for items not covered by those programs, such as cigarettes and alcohol.

Which doesn't mean I think they should be drug testing welfare recipients, imho it's a gross violation of the fourth amendment, but let's keep reality in this conversation, people can and do utilize their government assistance to acquire alcohol, nicotine, etc.

The Democrats set the Rules of the Senate. Don't like the President's nominee's being filibustered? Don't forget who could have kept it from happening. The Democrats. Why didn't they? They didn't want to.

      •  You can find a way around anything (0+ / 0-)

You can find a way around anything, but that's not the point.  The argument is 'well they will just spend it on x and y',  falls when they are already policies in place to prevent that. They may not be ironclad but they are there.

Saying that people illegally going around those means they do is like saying the federal government has legalized theft because some people do break into houses and steal stuff.

they aren't buying other drugs with those cards either.

apparently being disappointed and saying so is itself a hrable offense. I am disappointed in what Democrats have achieved since 2009. Trollrate away.

    •  They will say... (0+ / 0-)

that they sell their benefits...which they do.  I know people who have been bought food for exchange for money.
