  •  shockingly, there is actually no Starbucks (6+ / 0-)

on my route. I know - a 5-mile route, you'd think there'd be at least 1. But my route goes through the UT campus, then along quiet neighborhood streets. There's a couple of laundromats & a hookah bar (if they're still in business). I can fill my camelback in the morning & keep it in the fridge all day, then I'd have 1.5 liters of cold water on my back.

Even so, 45 or more minutes, on asphalt, in 100+ temps... enough to make a girl pause & contemplate using the gym instead.

work and soaking it in cold water just before leaving, then draping it over the back of my neck and biking home like that. It's a dry heat here, so that works.  If it's humid, that would just make you more miserable.  Yes, you're right -- afternoon heat is horrid and sometimes seems like it'd be a health hazard.

    •  What do you wear when you commute? Ice? (0+ / 0-)

Those skintight bike shorts are really revealing, but they sure are cooler.

I think some folks put ice in their camelbacks.
