    for years now, I have been asking myself what has promoted the shifts in religions to fundamentalism?  Haven't come up with a good answer yet.

    If one of us is denied civil rights, all of us are denied civil rights.

      at such a rapid clip, fundamentalism is a handy way to cope with changes that would otherwise floor someone; there's an old song in the fundamentalist tradition, "God said it, I believe it, and that settles it for me." You don't have to worry your pretty little head about anything, just go with the Word of God. It gives a rock to hang onto when you feel like the storm waves of the world are battering you to pieces. And note that it's not just fundamentalist Christianity that's the problem; we see see the same with the ultra-religious Jews in Israel, and of course the various sects of Islam.
