    were dug up in an upstate NY farm? So the language was understood by only one man? So the direction was to go to the promised land (west, that is) and take as many wives as he, the prophet, could sustain?

    Sounds like a wet dream to me.

    Traditional family values, Mormon style, equals as many wives as the male can sustain. Why would any sane young person listen to a sermon about the structure of a family from these elders? The only reason they don't have more than one legal wife is because statehood for Utah depended on them renouncing polygamy. They were forced to do it. Some values.

      He was given special stones to magically transform the writing to English (or that changed his brain wiring while using them to understand the writing) - he then put his face into his hat and dictated the book from within. The angel took the stones and plates back afterwards.
