  •  I'd kill for a Beechcraft Baron 58... (2+ / 0-)

...especially with the glass cockpit.    Perfect plane.  Twin engine, fast, good range, durable.

performance in a Skymaster is significantly better than in a Baron?  All due to the centerline thrust configuration as opposed to hanging the fans on the wings. And if you are in  a Riley Rocket Skymaster, it is a LOT better than a Baron if you lose an engine.

this was due to the rear prop providing a bit of serendipitous boundary layer control for the rear fuselage, reducing drag a bit compared to a plane with no rear fan. Supposedly that also means that single engine performance of a 337 is better on the rear engine than on the front one.

        Moderation in most things.

      •  Similar comparison, a C-182 (1+ / 0-)

to something like a Saratoga.  The Piper is more expensive and uses more fuel, but the 182 has about equal performance when compared economically and with payload.  That would be probably be true with the Cessna twin 310 also; the expense of that extra engine outweighs the efficiency of the 182.
Ok, a retractable 182 is on the top of my list of favorite planes.  You got me.
