I'm thinking particularly of Alison Bechdel's Fun Home, which was a finalist for the National Book Award.

    •  FUN HOME is an amazing story... (0+ / 0-)

Time magazine called it the best book, of any kind, in its given year. I once sent Bechdel  fan (e) mail and she responded. It was like getting an autograph from Patti Smith or something. In my world, it's often the Superhero comics that get overlooked.

I think my single favorite part was one where Ginger is in the midst of finishing her dissertation on Friday night when the lights go out.  She screams, then calls her friend Sydney, who's in the midst of seducing a new girlfriend.

        "Ginger?  What's wrong?"

"THE LAST TIME I HIT 'SAVE' WAS WEDNESDAY!!!!"

        "I'll be right over."
