  •  If you don't want to hear the voices of those (3+ / 0-)

of us who can't make it then you just shouldn't worry about it I suppose.  The point isn't that I or the diarist can't make it, it's that we are underrepresented at a conference that is suppose to take into account our voices.

I refuse to represent my political beliefs using numbers. It isn't accurate, nor is it helpful. But I'm around a -10 on both scales.

    •  Dude, I'm not going to NN (5+ / 0-)

because I can't afford it. Difference being you think this is some sort of injustice someone is supposed to correct and I don't.

I support torturous regimes! Also, I kick puppies.

Which is true.  The point is that people with a specific perspective are systematically denied a voice at the conference. outside a few who get scholarships.

... is that we try to make the conference accessible and affordable to the most people each year (keeping in mind that we try to move it around the country to make it regionally closer for folks).

I totally understand that not everyone can afford to go, but we do help people whenever possible, either by directing you to scholarships (not just the DFA one but there are others) or to plugging you in as a volunteer so it's more affordable.

There are also options like airbedandbreakfast.com and lots of people split hotel rooms or do rideshares. Not everyone can afford a flight and hotel room, but there are creative ways to get to NN.
