I'm just suggesting this isn't as easy as you make it out to be.  All you're suggesting is what makes things more affordable for you, but you're missing the burdens you're placing on others in return.

As a guy in a wheelchair, I could not manage an outside convention at fairgrounds in the middle of summer. And I'm a young disabled person. And as a poor guy, I can't afford to fly to cities where it will necessitate more layovers and increase the cost.

Not to mention all the accessibility and health related issues that would come up for us if it were a "cheaper" outdoor conference. And the access to, say, bathrooms and stuff disabled people would need.

There are a lot of other issues. (And I'm someone who even complained about last year's convention once I was there, because of all the accessibility issues, but this new idea would make all of those complaints worse.

BMWMOA has set up a "special needs" camping section, with paved flat surfaces, electricity, accessable showers, etc. available. I used a wheelchair at their event in Wisconsin a couple years ago and had no problems.
