At the beginning, I thought it was just another sex scandal by just another Congressman; that things leveling off in the Middle East left a NewsVoid; that it was one more bit of crap for ET [not that I watch that stuff, you understand].    But then we come to find out for sure that he pictured his twitter to someone's 17-year-old daughter.  That was a cry for help.    He's a loose cannon on the deck who may well "go off" with the least provocation.   .I'm sorry, but that was the end of Mr. Nice Guy.

This news is TWO DAYS OLD, and if you missed it, it was willful blindness, ignorance, or malice:

      Police close Delaware Weiner case
      June 12, 2011
By Bob Fernandez, Inquirer Staff Writer

WILMINGTON - Police have closed an investigation into the online contact between Rep. Anthony Weiner and a 17-year-old Delaware girl who started following the New York Democrat online after a class trip to the nation's capital earlier in the spring.

C.R. McLeod, a spokesman for the New Castle County government, told the Associated Press on Saturday that investigators had concluded their probe and planned no further comment "unless something new arises that needs their attention."

Delaware police spoke with the girl and her mother on Friday, and, according to the girl's Philadelphia lawyer, Daniel P. McElhatton, took the girl's laptop and cellphone for analysis. The girl's family voluntarily handed over the computer and phone, and police did not have a warrant, McElhatton said.

"There was nothing of a sexual nature or any innuendo," McElhatton said of the communications between Weiner and the girl. He [McElhatton] previously said in a statement that there was no exchange of photographs between the high school junior and the 46-year-old congressman.

      Then it's
      Not your choice
      AND it's
      None of your damn business!

      •  If the updated news is correct (0+ / 0-)

(and I have no reason to doubt it), Mikey was just misinformed, or more likely, under-informed like many of us.
I know him to be a truthful and intelligent poster.
In fact, I too had not heard the news that the story was fully resolved without further damage to the Congressman's reputation.
As Mark Twain famously said, "A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes."
The damage is still out there, and unfortunately, will remain out there. To the MSM, the truth is just not as sexy as the fable and Weiner's total innocence in this charge will continue to be under-reported.
If the Delaware case has been totally closed, that's great news and thank you for pointing it out.
Still, it's always a dangerous assumption to believe the person on the other end of your tweet is the person they claim to be. In Weiner's case, at least one of them turned out to be a BFF of Andrew Breitbart.

        •  At least one poster *was* deliberately malicious (0+ / 0-)

Said poster was told and told and told about the police investigating the matter and finding nothing in it - but said poster kept on posting the LIES.

There are also Kossacks  - including, I fear, Fishgrease - whose opinions on the matter have been so tainted by all the lies that they are no longer capable of objectively analyzing the facts. Even when they are told that the police closed the case for lack of so much as a sniff of suspicious conduct, they still kvetch about how "creepy" and "suspicious" and "skeevy" the non-relationship "was", and how it "might" or "would" have "gone there" "if allowed to continue".

          If it's
          Not your body
          Then it's
          Not your choice
          AND it's
          None of your damn business!

    •  On the loose cannon (outside his shorts) (0+ / 0-)

One of the nastier aspects of Cybersex with strangers is that Tweeters seldom really know who they're actually flirting with. That 17-year-old girl in Oshkosh could just as easily be a 35-year-old, 600 pound Sumo wrestler in Kobe.
You may be right about it being a "cry for help."
Perhaps that's why these folks put themselves in jeopardy, or maybe that's simply part of the thrill - or both.
      I dunno.
Whatever the motivation, we've simplified Congressman Weiner to a cartoon, and that may emerge as the larger and more lasting shame. While we now know he is a man with pronounced troubles, he remains a man of great substance.
Those two conflicting facets are not unique to Anthony Weiner.
