I am afraid that Weiner strikes me as the immature one. Both in his sexting and his lying afterwards. Both acts cut from the same immaturity.

I find it hard to believe that immaturity on one front, especially as basic a one as the private and sexual, does not affect actions and effectiveness on others, more public.

This is why the personal is political.

Therefore his public histrionics, entertaining and satisfying as they may have been for frustrated progressives, are suspect in my mind.

about his public statements. or 'histrionics' as you refer to them. I thought they were direct on target responses to Republican policies or Republican votes that were meanspirited and wrong. The level of the congressman's maturity is beside the point, I think.
I do agree with the comments about the coverup - the direct lies told not only to the public but to the leader of his congressional party. That's wrong, however you slice it. I also agree that is grounds aplenty for resignation. But I maintain my original thesis:this would be a complete non-issue if we had a more enlightened, and I maintain, healthier attitude toward sex in general. We could then focus on somewhat more pressing issues, the ones that got me interested in progressive politics in the first place
