    your idealism, but I've become a little bit less of a Rousseauian with each passing year.  If the collective consciousness necessary to tear down existing institutions and replace them with better (rather than worse) ones were present, the existing institutions would be working in the first place.

      many aspects of our society, including politics, the work world, the family and even some religions.  Schools somehow seem to be a lagging force towards conformity rather than innovation.

      I like to think of myself as a "pragmatic idealist"... grin.  Rather than trying  to completely reinvent our society in some impossible utopian way, I keep looking for reasonable steps forward to move in the direction of innovation and continuing human development.  But call it "idealism" if you wish!
