Your story is heartbreaking and mesmerizing, beautiful and ugly at once. I thank you for sharing it...truly. The first half of your story is very like my own situation. The darkness stealing someone away, floundering numbly while trying to be a parent, losing the love of your life. I've been down that road, and watched my ex succumb to the horrors in his mind. Divorced him and moved on.

But our daughter kept us in touch, and eventually close, and eventually he too found help, meds, people who could show him how to cope with the demons in his mind from his past. And I'm sitting here now, while he sits 10 feet away, thinking how lucky I am that we got past it and that he is here. We're all 3 here. How lucky we all are. I've struggled with whether this is the right thing to do, for me, for our daughter....whether it's safe, smart, healthy. I thank you for sharing your story and reminding me what we once had, and that it can be taken away....that a life of "safe" without giving this a chance while I can would truly be a waste.

Thank you. I'm glad for you that you have your boys and your memories, and the laughter.
