Is going to be that there is only one member of the House of Representatives who cares directly about the North Coast, instead of two... which for example may have an impact on oil drilling and other coastal issues.

      •  The north coast only has population to deserve one (2+ / 0-)

unfortunately.  This redistricting reflects more attetion to the central valley, which has the population.

My own views are coastal focused, but this redistricting basically rights a wrong of too much reprentation for the north coast at the expense of the Valley and 'burbs.

concerned about the coast. There is a lot of coast (and coastal population) between San Francisco and San Ysidro. All but one or two of those will be strong protectors of the coastal environment. Maybe the OC or SD would elect an anti-environmental Rep but Santa Cruz and San Francisco sure as hell won't. Nor will Santa Barbara, Santa Monica etc...

          the central valley.

Santa Rosa is north coast. Santa Rosa and Eureka are the population centers of the north coast.

Santa Rosa is also pretty inaccessible from the central valley and vice versa.
