    then bailed.  We read the writing on the wall in construction when all three of the companies that I kept the books for started to have serious "rob peter to pay paul" issues from month to month.  

    The boom was still going on, but the big GC spec builders were putting up huge projects and hoping to sell them, so they never had quite enough money to fully pay our requisitions for payment, only made partial payments.  That forced the subcontractors to run on razor thin margins.  First good-sized hiccup and things hit the toilet fast.
