    not having the debt limit raised. Corporations know that not raising the debt limit will seriously hurt their business's.

    If Republicans are the party of the corporations, then why are Democrats even having negotiations with Republicans on raising the debt limit?

      Democrats are negotiating because they want cuts too.

      Why? That's the question. I afraid the answer is that a large enough plurality of Democratic lawmakers, and the president himself, think cuts are "good politics" - and the cynical devil on my left shoulder tells me "good politics" means to these Democrats, "necessary for my re-election".
