      Maybe its reach somewhat greater than that of the Afghan government's, but not in the Sunni areas.

      That's the point: it was the political developments brought about by our withdrawal policy that helped the government's legitimacy, and therefore improved its capacity to effectively govern far beyond any help it was getting from our military presence.

        a gun, especially if the gun belongs to a foreign occupying force. All we do is kil and terrorize the opponents of the installed regime, whether they seek hegemony or democracy (we have installed exactly zero democracies in all of our innumerable wars).
