  •  It's not an issue of silence or no silence (11+ / 0-)

After all, it's a big internet out there. Rather, Mr. Weiss and Mr. Horowitz, in setting their ground rules, made the following rule number one:

No racist or sexist comments. This includes anti-Arab, Islamophobic and anti-Semitic comments (and yes, Christian-bashing too). This includes comments that disparage, intimidate or attack a person based on perceived ethnicity or gender.

So, either they didn't really mean it when they made this rule, they promised more than they could deliver, or they don't deem this kind of hate-speech worthy of site moderation. For the sake of argument, let's assume it's number one and they think sunshine is the best disinfectant, or two and they're just overworked and cannot devote time to moderation.

This is why the diary focused exclusively on "above the fold" pieces--that is, not comments, but actual blog posts. The Jew-counting, the publication of Holocaust deniers and pushers of the Christ-killer meme is sufficient for me to cast the site in an unflattering space.

    Unapologetic Obama supporter.

    •  The Reason Why I Brought Up Comments (0+ / 0-)

Is given the policy above I believe that they are fair game.  The problem is charges of anti-Semitism and racism are so subjective and people have different levels of tolerance. I dare say if I was in the interview that Phil promoted I would have left the room in disgust in the middle of it. Note that Phil also apologized for his anti-Catholic bigotry in the interview. It appears to me that his tolerance level is much higher on what constitutes anti-Semitism than here which quite frankly is a hair trigger.

For example and since it was already brought up it is interesting how Clenchner was treated here and on Mondoweiss.net. On the latter Clenchner was unfairly ridiculed. But here he was censored for quoting Juan Cole.
